Wybór wierszy wybitnych twórców młodopolskich, m.in. Jana Kasprowicza, Kazimierza Przerwy-Tetmajera, Bolesława Leśmiana, Tadeusza Boya-Żeleńskiego czy Tadeusza Micińskiego. Młoda Polska to po długim okresie pozytywistycznej niechęci do poezji epoka wielkiego do niej powrotu. Moderniści opowiadali się za poezją niezaangażowaną społecznie za sztuką dla sztuki, kultem piękna i duchowości. Poeci przełomu XIX i XX w. dawali także wyraz znużeniu i rozczarowaniu, które przytłaczały nie tylko ich samych, lecz także większą część społeczeństwa fin de siecleu. Ich przejmująca, pełna niepokoju poezja stała się dokumentem choroby wieku, kryzysu wartości i ideałów. Wyrażała zniechęcenie brzydotą świata i brak wiary w kulturę europejską.

It is a realistic story of commonplace life in a small Ohio town, the realism being of that wholesome sort which portrays the every-day existence, the small joys and sorrows, of the average men and women of the average Western village. The story deals with the struggles of the hero, Glenn Marley, a young man of very ordinary ability, to win a place in the legal profession and at the same time earn enough money to enable him to marry the girl (Lavinia Blair) of his choice, who is the daughter of Judge Blair, one of the leading citizens of the town. The story, however is a faithful picture of life in a conservative Western town and will appeal to those who enjoy the simple recital of unexciting events.

Another fast-paced murder mystery by J.S. Fletcher told in the first person. He wrote about 200 books on a wide variety of subjects, both fiction and non-fiction. He was one of the leading writers of detective fiction in the Golden Age. It was first published in 1920, and has just the right stock of truly good characters, balanced by a couple of nasties. A young apprentice solicitor in a rural English town bordering Scotland, is riding his bike through lonely stretches of countryside very late in the evening, to run a strange errand for a mysterious lodger at his mothers house. He finds a recently murdered body at the end of his ride, and the mysteries keep piling up from there.

Elizabeth Marchant (18621941) was a prolific English writer who wrote in the style of the Victorian adventure novel. She was born in Petham in Kent and preferred to be known as Bessie. In many of her novels the lead characters in her books were very often female, although she did write books with male heroes. Athabasca Bill: A Tale of the Far West is a must-read for anyone in need for a dose of entertaining, worthwhile writing.

He is introduced as an honest peasant of uncompromising temper, whose rough nature is ever softened by his pretty wife Mavis. Dales evening in London is transformed into a catastrophe when he learns a past secret about Mavis that threatens his marriage. Confronted with this secret, Will and Mavis struggle to make their marriage work and become successful. Ironically, Dale is eventually confronted by the same scenario. This work, described as a study of elemental passion and mystery, excited wide discussion and was attacked in many quarters for the daring of its theme, obsession and adultery.
