Figaro, sługa hrabiego Almavibyego, chce wziąć ślub z pokojówką Zuzanną, ale jego pan planuje przywrócić prawo pierwszej nocy, aby zdobyć kobietę. Figaro, Zuzanna oraz hrabina obmyślają więc sprytny plan, w którym to hrabina przebiera się za dziewczynę i idzie do łoża swego męża. Przebranie okazuje się być tak dobre, że nie wprowadza w błąd jedynie hrabiego, ale też samego Figara. Komedia odniosła duży sukces i spotkała się z bardzo dobrym odbiorem, choć nie obyło się bez kontrowersji na dworze francuskim.

It was a little uneasy when Madame Crowley got up from her bed in a crazy outfit, in high heels, with long nails and false eyebrows and scared the girl half to death. The mumbling of the dead boy added to the sensation of something terrible.

This book is a collection of short stories about one of Sherlock Holmes most prominent rivals: Dr. Thorndyke and Jervis. Doyles characters may be better, but Freeman spins a lot of mysteries based on reasoning.
