George is a brave guy. The one for whom everyone experiences in this story. He does not think twice about doing the right thing. George takes and does. He did his best to cope with the difficulties in the open prairie. This is a story about a brave fight on a ranch and farm in the Canadian prairie.
David Copperfield is the story of a young mans adventures on his journey from an unhappy and impoverished childhood to the discovery of his vocation as a successful novelist. Among the gloriously vivid cast of characters he encounters are his tyrannical stepfather, Mr Murdstone; his formidable aunt, Betsey Trotwood; the eternally humble yet treacherous Uriah Heep; frivolous, enchanting Dora; and the magnificently impecunious Micawber, one of literatures great comic creations.
A young woman gets married and suddenly finds herself in a situation where her loving and beloved husband turns out to be the bearer of a different surname, and a terrible, dark and discrediting secret is revealed in his past.
Readers with a taste for classic Westerns will appreciate this storys spirited, well-drawn characters and its evocative descriptions of the frontiers natural beauty. Hell-Bent Wade arrives at a Colorado homestead where a young woman is being pressured into matrimony. The plot centers around this young woman, an orphan named Columbine, who is entrapped by her allegiances into considering marriage to the drunkard son of her adopted father. Columbine is torn between her feelings of duty and affection for the old man, who raised her as his own child, and her blossoming love for a young ranch hand, Wilson Moore. Columbines dilemma seems impossible to resolve until tragedy, fate, and the mysterious rider intervene.
Earl Derr Biggers second Charlie Chan novel took the detective to the California desert where he uncovers the reason for the mysterious disappearance of a millionaire. Biggers was always a great romance writer who simply incorporated mystery into his books to propel the story forward. The story concerns a valuable string of pearls which is purchased by a wealthy and eccentric financier. Charlie Chan embarks on an incognito journey across the desert to find the answer to a question a question posed by a dead parrot who spoke in Chinese. Chan goes undercover to solve a complex triple intrigue of fake identity, kidnapping and murder. Charlies first trip to the mainland is a sparkling adventure full of mystery and old-fashioned romance.
John Strangeways lives the life of a country Gentleman farmer with his puritan brother in the hills of Cumberland. Far from the world of cities and noise he lived the clean, healthy, out-of-door life. When actress Louise Maurels car breaks down near their farm, she is forced to seek refuge with the misogynist brothers. Love ensues. Life no longer was quite the same to him, and in a short time he followed her to London. The coming of an unsophisticated though well educated, handsome young man into the semi-Bohemian circle brings about dramatic situations which the author knows well how to handle. Some wonderful minor characters aid the story also.
A family of flag-flaunting United States acquire an historic English mansion from the thoroughly prim, thoroughly British Lord Canterville. Throw in a murderous, aesthetically-minded ghost with a penchant for high drama and theater, and you have a classic, joy-inducing tale of clashing cultures, progress vs. tradition, and Wildes self-mockery of his own philosophy of decadent aestheticism. Wilde emphasized differences in culture by creating special characters and then pitting the unsophisticated tastes of the patriotic Americans patriotic as their children are named Washington and Virginia against the Brittish esteem of traditions. More telling, given the storys ending and that the events are closely placed within the historical context of conflicting views and several wars, the overall theme of forgiveness reads surprisingly fresh, even in todays time.
Prince Roman is a Pole who relinquishes his comfortable position in the aristocracy to fight as an unknown soldier, resisting Russian oppression. In captivity, he has every opportunity to avoid punishment, but he declares his unconditional commitment to the liberation of Poland. As a result, he suffers a quarter century in the imperial equivalent of the Gulag Siberian mines in the ninth century, before returning to live in modest conditions in what should have been his own property, before devoting his life to helping other people.
There is literally no such thing as an evil genius, just a lot of depressed people who were not lucky enough to live in the 1800s. This is a historical family drama. A very abrupt end. Its never quite clear who the evil genius is. But he certainly gave us a clear idea of just how devastating adultery can be.

Znany i ceniony w środowisku artystycznym literat Roman Turski powraca do Krakowa jako majętny biznesmen, co wzbudza duże zamieszanie wśród miejscowych artystów. Szczególne zainteresowanie okazuje mu Helena Hazarapelianowa, znana femme fatale i łamaczka serc, otoczona licznym gronem adoratorów. Niegdyś należał do nich również główny bohater. To właśnie księżna Helena stanowiła przyczynę wyjazdu Turskiego. Mężczyzna jednak wierzy, że ten etap w jego życiu jest już zakończony i wyrusza do Zakopanego, aby rozpocząć tam interesy.
The action of the novel Years, one of the most significant works of W. Woolf, takes place over fifty years from the 1880s to the mid 30s of the twentieth century. Victorian traditions are breaking down, cars and planes are appearing, the First World War is covering Europe... All this serves as the backdrop for the family saga the history of the Pargiter family: Colonel Abel Pargiter, his wife, lover, seven children, their wives, husbands, numerous relatives...
A Personal Record is the story of the design and manuscript of Caprice Olmeyer, Conrads first novel, as well as the story of his dream about the sea, and the story of his cousin who ate a dog, and the story of a beloved dog presented to his son, but above all, the story of the novel The Olmeyer Caprice, and the strange prototype of the hero of this novel, and a few more words about the man who was the first reader of this novel. At the same time, A Personal Record is not a classic autobiography, the book sometimes resembles a game of association, and it is impossible to predict where the author will bring another memory, another association and the story it generated.
Swoją wielkość i boskie pochodzenie podkreśla bogatym strojem. W rzeczywistości jednak jest on tchórzliwym błaznem.
This book not only wants to thrill its readers with a chilling story, but also touches on social issues in this case, the debate about whether there is a tendency to crime in a person. Blood is the genetic code, or can it be successfully counteracted by compassionate and virtuous parenting.
Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky
The protagonist in the novel is a young man of 19, Arkady Dolgoruky, the illegitimate son of the landowner Versilov and the peasant woman Sophia. From childhood, he almost did not see his parents. He was sent to a special institution for rich children, where he was always humiliated and called, a footman. And after graduating from school he receives a letter from his father, in which he calls Arkady to St. Petersburg, where the main events of the novel take place with him.
Pisane ciętym, błyskotliwym, pełnym humoru językiem Powiastki Voltairea pozostają dziełem ponadczasowym, ilustrującym zamiłowanie autora do wolności i mądrości.

A historical romance with a lot of local flavor. The action takes place in the South Downs, England. Everything revolves around the Civil War.
This is an exciting saga located in the Indian Ocean basin, against the stormy backdrop of barely suppressed military operations between the Dutch and British merchant fleets, told by one of Conrads classic passages. After all, Freyas unique perspective on the sharply etched nature is one of Conrads most piercing studies of how power hunger can lead people to greatness or its opposite.

Jim was a tall boy, taller than Bart and probably a year older, and would have looked nice if not for his conceited expression. His hair was black as ink, he had very dark eyes, and his skin was darker than that of an ordinary Englishman. Behind him was a small plump guy who looked like a groom or nursery. The new arrival looked at his dogs, then turned to Bart.

Książka opowiada o barwnym i burzliwym życiu Hallmanów i Sarnowskich w niełatwych czasach odbudowy Polski i panującego w niej zamętu politycznego.
In Praise of a Suffolk Cottage
Most of the stories were written in a cottage in Suffolk. Everyone now has a so-called cottage. This is a story about how a seemingly simple cottage won the heart of the protagonist and it happened for a reason.
