He is taken by the beauty of one fragile girl who cannot understand the western customs. His partner and supporter, Georgie Howard, quells her love for him, when they both go through the legal battle of the family ranch. Bower gives the reader an excellent portrayal of a man loved by more than one woman. All that entwined with three lovely women with completely different characters, a group of native Americans, and some interesting family dynamics transformed this saga into a good read.

Ethel May Dell Savage (1881-1939) was a British author known by her pen name Ethel M. Dell. She wrote over 30 popular romance novels and numerous of short stories between 1911-1939. Her stories were romantic in nature, often set in India and other old British colonies, and were considered quite racy for the time.

Tom Sawyer is the story of a young, mischievous boy and his comrades in the antebellum south. Tom (and Huck Finn, who youve also probably heard of before reading the books) gets himself into all sorts of shenanigans before ultimately becoming the most popular boy in town after accidentally witnessing a murder and finding a bunch of stolen money. He has a love interest, gets into some fights and annoys his aunt on nearly every page.In the end, Tom and Huck trap Injun Joe inside of a cave and recover his stolen gold, making themselves rich. Tom is a fairly good example of the average youngster. While his adventures may be grander than most, his selfishness and lack of compassion is not.

During and after the First World War, Edgar Wallace wrote several story and article series for the Glasgow Sunday Post, a weekly newspaper founded in 1915 by the Scottish shipping and media magnate David Couper Thomson. Some of these series were published under Wallaces own name, others including the present work under the house-author name of John Anstruther. The story The Elusive Dud is fast-paced with some surprising twists, well written and great to read. Wallace was a very prolific writer despite his sudden death at age 56. In total Wallace is credited with over 170 novels, almost 1,000 short stories, and 18 stage plays. Wallaces works have been turned into well over 100 films.

An interesting read. Ken and Hal go canoeing in Mexico. The writing has a very early 20th century feel to it, it almost feels as though Im watching an old classic movie on Saturday afternoon. It provides a curious insight into the beginnings of writing adventure novels.
