His large output of works, collectively entitled The Human Comedy (La Comedie Humaine), consists of 95 finished works and 48 unfinished works. The novel A Start in Life is part of the Scenes of Private Life section of Balzacs masterpiece. In much of Balzacs work, the aristocracy is portrayed as vain, duplicitous, and greedy. But in this novel, it is members of the working class who are mercilessly skewered when what starts out as a harmless prank rapidly snowballs into a comedy of errors with profound consequences. A comic novel in which an intrigue about property serves as the excuse for a trip in a public diligence, where a group of people try to mystify each other with strange tales of their lives.

Antek Boryna, syn Macieja, buntuje się jednak przeciw temu małżeństwu Jagna jest jego kochanką. Nie wyobraża sobie, że będą mieszkali pod jednym dachem. Hier fühlt es sich im Gegensatz zu einem Leben in sinnloser Freiheit voller Gefahren sicher. Das Tier wird beherrscht von der Vorstellung, sich gegen einen wie auch immer gearteten Feind durch eine Optimierung des Baues schützen zu können. Allerdings gibt es zwei Bereiche des Baues, die ihm Sorgen machen: Der Burgplatz und der Eingang. Auf dem Burgplatz ist die Hauptmenge der Vorräte gelagert. Deren Verteilung scheint ihm aber ungünstig. Es sollten mehrere Burgplätze zur Verteilung der Vorräte vorhanden sein, aber das Tier sieht sich von der erforderlichen Bauarbeit überfordert. Der mit Moos bedeckte Eingang erlaubt kein unbemerktes Ein- und Aussteigen. Das Tier vollführt verschiedenste Prozeduren, wie Anlegen von Forschungsgräben und Zusatzgängen, beobachtet tagelang von aussen den Eingang. Es findet aber keine Lösung, die sein Sicherheitsbedürfnis befriedigen würde. Die Erzahlung handelt von der Verstrickung in die zwanghafte Beobachtung einer selbstgeschaffenen labyrinthartigen Anlage, die zunehmende Paranoia erzeugt.

Fenton Ash was a pseudonym of Francis Henry Atkins (1847-1927), who contributed widely to the pre-science fiction pulp magazines, writing at least three Lost-World novels along with much else. In Polar Seas is a romance of adventure in the frozen North, targeted mainly at juvenile readers but billed as being for readers of all ages, it describes the adventures of a team of British explorers who discover a lost Viking civilization in a hitherto unknown temperate zone near the North Pole. If you havent discovered the joys of Fenton Ashs adventures there is a good place to start. Highly recommended!
