Głównym bohaterem utworu jest kilkunastoletni Antek. Razem z rodzicami i siostrą Rozalką mieszkają na wsi na terenie zaboru rosyjskiego. Sytuacja finansowa rodziny jest fatalna. Antek już jako pięciolatek musiał pracować i pomagać matce. Początkowo był świniopasem, jednak nie umiał skupić uwagi na pilnowaniu zwierząt. Chłopiec najbardziej lubi wykonywać zabawki z drewna i ma do tego wielki talent. To jednak nie podoba się matce chłopca. Pierwszym jego dziełem był wystrugany z drewna wiatrak, zapewne z powodu fascynacji chłopca wiatrakiem obserwowanym przez niego po drugiej stronie rzeki. Przez stałe zajmowanie się majsterkowaniem i struganiem często nie dopełniał swoich obowiązków. Dla matki jest oczywiste, że z takiego odmieńca wyrośnie tylko nic nie wart darmozjad i pośmiewisko. Nowela Prusa podejmuje tematykę trudnego życia na wsi w XIX wieku, a co za tym idzie niełatwego losu dzieci.

The Iron Heel is a distopian utopian socialist novel, told in first person by someone that have read the manuscript finded in a oak, hidden 600 years ago that tolds the life and adventures of a socialist activist Avis Everhard and her husband Ernst Everhard executed in 1932. The Iron Heel is a story with stories within stories...its about a past, a present, and a future...all told from the perspective of a man (Jack London) in 1906...read by current readers almost 100 years later. The Iron Heel foreshadows the current events of today by painting a picture of an oligarchy of the rich disenfranchising the poor and middle class. Its about a future time with its own history...a substantially fictional history about the very time spanning its writing and our current reading. This fictional writer is the narrator within the story, but theres another narrator (presenting the whole story) far in the future...looking back and remembering. In short, London has written a multi-level novel, which is, itself, a speculative prophecy of things to come in our own time.

Certainly he was quick with a six-gun; to be sure there were many notches in the Colt he threw with such lightning rapidity; but at his core he was a good man, forced into a life of wandering for protecting his kin. Arizona Ames is a classic western full of thrill and adventure, written by the granddaddy of them all Zane Grey.

An interesting classic mystery, yes, I guess I could say enjoyable but to a certain extent... At first you are dragged to the edge of your seat wondering whats going to happen next or what the hell does this unusual introduction mean, then youre hit with a bunch of senarios that keep you wanting to just continue to the next chapter to see what will happen, then you realise that some of what you may have suspected in the beginning IS the conclusion to the plot...

Once there he finds himself caught in the coils of his attraction to two women a situation that so unsettles his wits that he falls prey to a heavily symbolic dream obsession. The story centers on a love triangle that develops between Landor, the niece of the man hes staying with, Scarlet and the wife of the local land baron, Hilda. Dreams End is a radical departure from Thorne Smiths humorous novels, and was, in fact, Smiths first book rejected by publishers until his Topper novels became successful. Fans of Thorne Smith are likely to be intrigued by this book for its gothic nature and for an unexpected glimpse at a more serious side of the author.
