Ferdynand Antoni Ossendowski (18781945) to polski pisarz i dziennikarz, któremu materii twórczej dostarczały liczne podróże. Zaangażowany społecznie i politycznie, często zmieniał miejsce zamieszkania, odbywał też wyprawy badawcze. W twórczości odmalowywał odległe, różnorodne krainy z Europy, Azji i Afryki. W centrum zainteresowania zawsze stawiał jednak spotkanie z człowiekiem doświadczonym przez los, odmiennym, a jednak tak bardzo podobnym. Ossendowski w okresie międzywojennym cieszył się ogromną popularnością był drugim po Sienkiewiczu najczęściej tłumaczonym polskim autorem. Po wojnie podlegał ścisłej cenzurze.
