Figaro, Zuzanna oraz hrabina obmyślają więc sprytny plan, w którym to hrabina przebiera się za dziewczynę i idzie do łoża swego męża. Przebranie okazuje się być tak dobre, że nie wprowadza w błąd jedynie hrabiego, ale też samego Figara. Komedia odniosła duży sukces i spotkała się z bardzo dobrym odbiorem, choć nie obyło się bez kontrowersji na dworze francuskim.
