Birds of Prey is the first part of the story of Charlotte and her family and friends. At first, the birds of prey are a little confusing, since each of the first few chapters is a separate vignette about one of the characters, without any visible links to the others. The main plot theme revolves around the hunt for the legitimate descendant of a wealthy man whose great legacy awaited the gift. And in this context, there are several more or less unscrupulous people who trace this genealogy.

A Strange Story is a mystery novel, which is told from the perspective of Dr. Allan Fenwicke, a rational materialist. He publically debunks the spiritualist beliefs of his fellow physician Dr. Lloyd, and thereby hastens his colleagues demise. It is an interesting novel with beautiful story full of suspense, thrill, love, drama and unexpected twists.

Falk is subtle and minimalistic, and perhaps only the writer of the great Conrad can still do this; a calm, introspective story, which, however, is worth reading. This is a charming romantic tale in which Conrads usual gloomy, psychological fabrications, but evocative, but truly pedestrian story of a Marine... with a dark, primitive twist.
