Kiedy zdecydowałam się wyruszyć w podróż z moją niezawodną patelnią, miałam tylko jeden cel: odkryć tajemnice kuchni świata i, jeśli mi się uda, nie podpalić przy tym żadnej kuchni. Pakowanie patelni było jak wybieranie torebki na ważne wyjście - musi pomieścić wszystko, co niezbędne, a jednocześnie wyglądać stylowo. Moja patelnia była niczym wierny przyjaciel, który przeszedł ze mną przez wszystkie kulinarne bitwy, choć czasami bardziej przypominał pancerz ochronny niż narzędzie kuchenne. Gdy w końcu wyruszyłam, czułam się jak Indiana Jones, tylko zamiast kapelusza i bicza miałam kuchenny fartuch i zestaw przypraw, które rozprzestrzeniały się po całej walizce. Na lotnisku przeżyłam chwilę grozy, gdy obsługa chciała skonfiskować moją ulubioną łopatkę do smażenia, twierdząc, że może być użyta jako broń. Po długich negocjacjach i wykładzie na temat jej licznych zastosowań w bezpiecznym gotowaniu, udało mi się ją zachować.
