The Grassleyes Mystery

E. Phillips Oppenheim

This is another great novel by Edward Phillips Oppenheim, the prolific English novelist who was in his lifetime a major and successful writer of genre fiction including thrillers and spy novels, and who wrote over a 100 of them. When David Granet asks for a place to stay within a twenty-mile radius of either Nice or Cannes, he does not anticipate the trouble that he finds at the Manoir of Lady Grassleyes. The Lady of the manor is dead when he arrives, and the will is disputed. Granet gets himself drawn into an ugly dispute between the estate agent and Lady Grassleys niece. At stake is the land, the fortune, and a mysterious wealth in botanical formulas.

Cleek. The Man of the Forty Faces

Thomas W. Hanshew

A classic mystery novel featuring Hanshews best-known creation, the consulting detective Hamilton Cleek, known as the man of the forty faces for his incredible skill at disguise. An ex-cracksman turned Scotland Yard detective, Cleeks slim and faultlessly dressed form is topped by an india-rubber-like face, of which he has remarkable control. Cleek is based in Clarges Street, London, where he is constantly consulted by Inspector Narkom of Scotland Yard. Cleek is the central figure in dozens of short stories that began to appear in 1910 and were subsequently collected in a series of books. Cleek: The Man of the Forty Faces is the first book in the saga. A wonderfully entertaining story from the turn of the century of mystery, chivalry, and intrigue. If youre looking for good mystery look no further.

A Son of the Stars

Fenton Ash

As may be imagined from the title, Mr. Fenton Ashs book does not lack for marvelous adventure. A Son of the Stars novel is a complete rewrite of Fenton Ashs earlier novel A Trip to Mars. An exciting science fiction adventure, in which two heroes journey on a trip to Mars, where they have various adventures. In A Son of the Stars the heroes, who bear the names Gerald Wilton and Jack Lawford in A Trip to Mars, are called Bruce Mortimer and Maurice Somers. The names of other characters have also been changed, and there are major plot differences between the two works. All in all, they differ sufficiently to merit their classification as two separate novels. Highly recommended!
