W dialogu zestawiono również kwestie moralności jednostki z jej obowiązkami wobec ogółu oraz zaprezentowano przesłanki pacyfizmu moralnego reprezentowanego przez Sokratesa: sprzeciwiać się złu można tylko na drodze przekonywania, a nie odpłacaniem złem za zło. Kriton stanowi kontynuację dzieła Obrona Sokratesa opisującego proces Sokratesa zakończony skazaniem filozofa na śmierć.
