The Face in the Night was written in the year 1924 by Edgar Wallace. Leaving her chicken farm and moving to London to seek her sister, Audrey Bedford is caught passing the Queen of Finlands stolen necklace, and allows herself to be sent to prison for a year rather than implicate her guilty sibling. Once released, she takes a position as scribe to the mysterious Mr. Malpas, who lurks in his electrically-automated apartment and only allows himself to be seen from across a darkened room. When Malpas neighbor, the Australian Mr. Marshalt is murdered in the lair, Audrey is enmeshed in a tangle of lost diamonds, a long-burning feud, the fate of her father, and the affections of Captain Dick Shannon, Chief Inspector of Scotland Yard.
By the author of the Scarlet Pimpernel, Lady Molly of Scotland Yard is a collection of short stories featuring Lady Molly Robertson-Kirk, head of the Female Department at Scotland Yard in and around 1910. The book contains all twelve Lady Molly adventures and is narrated by Lady Mollys assistant Mary Granard. Lady Molly has a keen and brilliant mind, never failing to unravel a case that baffles the entire Scotland Yard force. Feisty, brilliant, and beautiful; precursor of the lay sleuth who relies on brains rather than brawn, Lady Molly, and her faithful sidekick and admiring chronicler Mary, began appearing in Orczys entertaining stories years before the first Englishwoman did in fact become an officer of the law. Mystery readers and fans of detective fiction and the police procedural are in for a real treat with these interlaced stories.
Appleby has a steady look and the ability to quickly make the right decisions as well as composure in action. These qualities are useful in more serious cases than shooting from the game, and for Appleby, who was poor, lucky that he possessed them. Appleby had something uncertain in his head. He had fearlessness in his eyes. And no one knew what was on his mind. Whether to be afraid, or to admire.

Do you love stories about the untamed days of the Old West? A simple story to read, but as always fascinating and make you plunge into a new story written by Fred M. White. A simple man with financial problems is recruited by a rich old man to spy on a scam who robbed his diamonds. Such an adventure has never ended in anything good. But this story may end differently.
Eastern society girl Beatrice Lansell, on a visit to her brothers Montana ranch, is being pressured by her social-climbing mother to accept her English nobleman suitor, Sir Redmond Hayes. She fills her days with coquetry, leisure and meaningless flirtations, but she has never found true love. The staunchly independent Beatrice finds herself equally annoyed and attracted by mysterious cowboy Keith Cameron. Will this improbable romance last? Theres plenty of conflict as corporations start buying up the free range, plenty of excitement and danger from the elements and criminals, and of course, plenty of romance as a New York socialite and a ruggedly noble cowpuncher fall in love.
The most popular pirate story ever written in English, featuring one of literatures most beloved bad guys, Treasure Island has been happily devoured by several generations of boysand girlsand grownups. Its unforgettable characters include: young Jim Hawkins, who finds himself owner of a map to Treasure Island, where the fabled pirate booty is buried; honest Captain Smollett, heroic Dr. Livesey, and the good-hearted but obtuse Squire Trelawney, who help Jim on his quest for the treasure; the frightening Blind Pew, double-dealing Israel Hands, and seemingly mad Ben Gunn, buccaneers of varying shades of menace; and, of course, garrulous, affable, ambiguous Long John Silver, who is one moment a friendly, laughing, one-legged sea-cook...and the next a dangerous pirate leader!

Jack and Jill. A Village Story
Louisa May Alcott, more famously known for her Little Women series, takes a familiar nursery rhyme and creates a whole novel out of it in one of her last books Jack and Jill: A Village Story. The story follows the lives of two 13-year-old neighbors, Jack and Jill, in the fictional Harmony Village. They go sledding on the first day of the season whereupon their adventurous natures and competitiveness get the better of them. After sledding down a particularly treacherous slope, both are seriously injured. Patience and sweetness of temperament arent Jack and Jills strong suits, and both struggle at times to control their tempers. Luckily they have the influence of their sweet mothers and a group of steadfast friends to show them the virtues of patience and fill their days with the joys of Christmas preparations, a theatrical production and many other imaginative events. As an early forerunner of the tough love philosophy of child rearing, Jack and Jill is indeed an interesting and entertaining read.

Oppenheim was famous for his hundreds of spy and espionage novels. This is not one of them. Its billed as a novel of social intrigue and as a story of revenge without violence and moves quickly. Duke Henry Chatfield with his family, and family lawyer Sir Stephen are riding through central Italy when the car breaks down in Pellini, where, 20 years earlier, the Dukes brother had a mistress and illegitimate child. Dukes daughter Monica is intrigued by a young Englishman named Francis taking his vows before disappearing into a monastery. She tries to convince him not to shut himself away but fails. Three years later, the family lawyer discovers that Francis is in fact the legitimate Duke, and encourages him to return to England. How Francis treats his relations, and his new found wealth and position form the plot of this 1927 novel.
With Room 13 in 1924 Edgar Wallace introduced readers to Mr. J. G. Reeder, one of the least glamorous of all fictional detectives. Mr. J. G. Reeder is neither a police detective nor an amateur crime-fighter, nor is he a private detective. In fact he is employed by the Bank of England, and acts as a kind of consultant to Scotland Yard. This time Edgar Wallaces unassuming investigator shares the limelight with a young and vigorous ex-con called John Gray. John Gray, a moderately wealthy gentleman who was set up for having supposedly cheated riding in a horse race and sent to Dartmoor, comes out seeking vengeance on the man who sent him there and finds himself aided in his quest by the seemingly innocuous J.G. Reeder.
