An Eye for an Eye: The Untold Story of Jewish Revenge Against Germans in 1945, which states that some Jews in Eastern Europe took revenge on their former captors while overseeing over 1,000 concentration camps in Poland for German civilians. The book provides details of the imprisonment of 200,000 Germans many of them starved, beaten and tortured and estimates that more than 60,000 died at the hands of a largely Jewish-run security organisation.
Towards the end of his career, Wells write this book, in which he outlined his vision of Utopia. This is the story of a Mr. Barnstaple, an everyday man, who finds himself propelled into a parallel universe with a group of famous politicians, aristocrats, and their chauffeurs. The world they find themselves in has abolished all disease, and everyone only works at what takes their fancy. The inhabitants of this world speak telepathically, and recognise that the Earth is currently going through a phase akin to a part of their history called the age of confusion which happened some 3000 years before. But despite being surrounded by such beauty and elegance, some of the earthlings rebel and attempt to conquer this new world.
The plots of the stories of the collection The Red One (1918) unfold in various parts of the globe from the Solomon Islands and Ecuador to Nebraska and Klondike. When Bassett conducted scientific research in the jungle, he was attacked by the natives and became their captive. It was then that the scientist first heard the strange voice of the Red deity, which drove into his soul an irresistible desire to see the idol with his own eyes, even at the cost of his own life.
One of the most prolific writers of the twentieth century, Edgar Wallace was an immensely popular author, who created exciting thrillers spiced with tales of treacherous crooks and hard-boiled detectives. Wallaces Sergeant Sir Peter is a collection of stories about an aristocratic young man who becomes a Police Sergeant. Despite this conceit, this collection is much more realistic about life in Britain than many Golden Age works. The stories deal sympathetically with people who are discriminated against in British society: Indians, women, and the working poor. Wallace bluntly shows discrimination against racial minorities, and the oppression of women. He also delights in exposing the flaws of the rich and there is also an emphasis on the financial needs of workers.
The Golden Road, written by legendary author Lucy Maud Montgomery is widely considered to be one of the greatest books of all time. This great classic will surely attract a whole new generation of readers. Introduced in The Story Girl, Sara Stanley is L.M. Montgomerys most enchanting heroine since Anne of Green Gables. When she returns to Carlisle to spend the winter with the King family, she comes up with a great idea. To help them through the dreary months ahead, she, Felicity, Cecily and Dan will publish a magazine. Published in 1913, the novel explores themes of childhood innocence and its transience, while highlighting the value of intangible things which prove to be the very essence of life.
This is another Ethel Dell novel. Sylvia Ingleton is left motherless at an early age. Her father remarried a woman who is not happy to share her household with Sylvia. Soon, Sylvia is entangled in webs of deceit to get her married off. Boldly, she announces to her father and would be suitor that she will rejoin her fiancé of five years in South Africa. The backdrop of South Africas wilderness, drought, cloud bursts and love triangles leaves Sylvia in a struggle to survive. In this thrilling adventure, she finds her way like a lost child to her Top of the World. It is an astonishingly melodramatic novel, with a plot that moves with such gusto from one strong emotional situation to another that you only occasionally pause to consider how very exaggerated and improbable it is.
The two men hesitated upon the tee, gazing down the glade towards the distant-green. Their caddies were still pointing in excitement to a motionless object stretched upon the smooth turf close to the flag. Look there! Its a man! He is dead! The players paused to consider the situation. They were oddly contrasted combatantsone, Mr. Edgar Franks, elderly, large and florid, with a mass of flaxen hair only slightly streaked with grey, a transatlantic millionaire, and owner of the finest villa in the neighbourhood of Antibes the other tall and slim, a mere lad, whose name was Armand Toyes, and who motored down occasionally from his home somewhere in the hills behind Cagnes.
This is a story about the beautiful and immortal Ayesha. The expedition is sent to an unexplored part of Africa, where the group finds Ayesha, who claims the expeditions leader is the reincarnation of her long-dead beloved. Ayesha became ageless and absolutely beautiful over 2 thousand years ago, plunging into a magical fire. Her only desire is to reunite with her beloved man. She makes the expedition leader to immerse himself as well.
Jude is a layman who is cursed by an even larger figure: a pre-feminist minx. In the case of Jude, being associated with a woman in the then strange double is a fatal flaw. And not just any woman: Sue Briadhead, a Bovarian double, is ambivalent, mean and not romantic. Of course, she alone would betray Judahs affection, break his heart. She is the sad queen of drama!
The story of the imitation of man. After all, everyone has a person to whom you want to strive. There is a murder and a chase in Western Canada a few days before the advent of cars or even telegraph lines in much of the country. Great attention to the landscape. The author does not regret the descriptions of landscapes.
The Man Who Was Thursday. A Nightmare
The Man Who Was Thursday: A Nightmare was written by G.K. Chesterton and published in 1908. Ostensibly about a secret policeman investigating anarchists, it becomes a surreal and philosophical novel. It is a metaphysical thriller, and a detective story filled with poetry and politics. Gabriel Syme is a poet and a police detective. Lucian Gregory is a poet and a bomb-throwing anarchist. Syme infiltrates a secret meeting of anarchists and becomes Thursday, one of the seven members of the Central Anarchist Council. He soon learns, however, that he is not the only one in disguise, and the nightmare begins...The Man Who Was Thursday has a Mission plot, although the final confrontation with the Antagonist is rather a bizarre one.
Arthur J. Rees is a past master in the art of fashioning ingenious mystery-detective yarns and The Moon Rock is one of his best. The authors many admirers will find keen enjoyment and many puzzling moments in their endeavors to solve the mystery. Robert Turold had spent his life trying to prove his claim to an ancient title. Yet, when it seems he is about to finally succeed, his body is found in a remote cottage on the Cornish coast, an apparent suicide. Detective Brannert of Scotland Yard, however, suspects murder. His young daughter, his long-time servant, his brother and nephew all have something to gain by his death. This fast-paced detective story unfolds through the tangles of complicated family ties and secrets, suspicious servants, and a mysterious Cornish legend.
Szlachcic Alonso Kechani, przybrawszy imię Don Kichota z La Manchy, wyrusza ze swym giermkiem w świat, bronić czci damy swego serca, Dulcynei z Toboso. Don Kichot z La Manchy to klasyka literatury europejskiej.
Dave Dashaway and His Hydroplane. Or Daring Adventures over the Great Lakes
Running an airship took nerve, steadiness of purpose, a definite, concrete way of looking at things. Dave knew in his own mind that the Drifter was each hour speeding farther and farther away from the haunts of men. He recalled the old adage, however, which says the more haste the less speed, and he determined to stick to the plan he had mentally outlined at the start. In Dave Dashaway and His Hydroplane, Dave is called in to assist in the recovery of a hydro-aeroplane, or as we would know it, a seaplane. Criminals have already figured out how to use this exciting new invention for evil, and Dave must nip it in the bud! This second volume of the series shows how Dave continued his career as a birdman and had many adventures over the Great Lakes, and how he foiled the plans of some Canadian smugglers.
This work is written not in the traditional western spirit. We are talking about a mercenary who guardes the Chandlers shop with a gun. When the marshal himself said that I was no other than the murderer, I told him that I would leave Bostwick and try to start a new life without a gun. This is a great nigga, recommended for those who are looking for something else in the western genre.
Pollyooly. A Romance of Long Felt Wants and the Red Haired Girl Who Filled Them
Edgar Alfred Jepson was an English writer, principally of mainstream adventure and detective fiction, but also of some supernatural and fantasy stories that are better remembered. The story Pollyooly. A Romance of Long Felt Wants and the Red Haired Girl Who Filled Them (1912) takes place prior to World War I. Pollyooly, whose given name is Mary Bride, is the 12-year-old housekeeper of John Ruffin, a London barrister. Pollyooly and her younger brother, Roger are orphans. Raised by their aunt in a village, they come to London when her aunt is swindled out of her lifes savings and forced to find work as Ruffins cook and housekeeper. When their aunt is killed by a motorist, Pollyooly tries to fill in for her aunt in order to keep both her and her brother out of the workhouse.
Joseph Conrad, Ford Madox Hueffer
This is a story about the adventures of the youth of the regency from the lower reaches of the British nobility in the harsh and capricious world of the Caribbean Sea, complete with pirates, romance and daring Spanish girls, as well as a few last minute escapes the clichés of romantic fantasies about adventures. There are several excerpts from Conrads beautiful memories. At that time, slavery was the basis of the Caribbean economy, and the hero for some time is the head of the slave-owning plantation.
The First Time He Died is a mysterious novel written by Ethel Lina White. Charlie Baxter was successful among women and rather easily managed the money, which he inherited. However, the money began to run out. And he decided to insure himself and fake his death. The most interesting thing happens after his "death".
Daisy Ginny, a young aunt, returns from a year abroad and discovers that Daisy is hoping that Lord Lindfield will make an offer. This is a story about intricate love with an intriguing plot. We know that such a novel from such an author cannot have happy end. The novel is at least a little witty, but with genuine bets for those involved in the reading.
Horror built on the psychological game of characters. Jeremy at Crale is a third-age story published by Sir Hugh Walpole. Published to critical acclaim throughout the world, it quickly became a bestseller.
