Each boy must learn to deal with death, love, heartbreak, disappointment and the consequences of their actions. Entertaining, surprising, and overall a joy to read, Jos boys is nevertheless shaded by a bittersweet tone, for with it Alcott brought her wonderful series to an end.

During 1907 Edgar Wallace (1875-1932) travelled to the Congo Free State, to report on atrocities committed against the Congolese under King Leopold II of Belgium and the Belgian rubber companies, in which up to 15 million Congolese were killed. These were published as his first collection Sanders of the River (1911), a best seller. Er lie sich zum Kaufmannslehrling ausbilden, danach absolvierte er eine Ausbildung in Landwirtschaft. 1837 wanderte er nach Amerika aus, wo er ein abwechslungsreiches und abenteuerliches Leben als Matrose, Heizer, Jger, Farmer, Koch, Silberschmied, Holzfller, Fabrikant und Hotelier fhrte. 1843 kehrte Gerstcker nach Deutschland zurck. Er lebte ab 1868 in Dresden und Braunschweig. Gerstcker starb am 31.05.1872 in Braunschweig. Gerstcker war ein Erzhler von auerordentlich spannenden und farbenprchtigen Abenteuerromanen, die jedoch stets belehrende Momente in der Landschafts- und Kulturschilderung beinhalten.

Utwór dramatyczny należący do cyklu dramatów Dziady. Powstawał w latach 1832 w Dreźnie. Ze względu na miejsce powstania niekiedy określany mianem Dziadów drezdeńskich. Dramat cechuje nieciągłość, fragmentaryczność i otwarta, swobodna kompozycja. Żaden z licznych wątków fabularnych nie został ukończony. Do całego cyklu nawiązuje scena IX (obrzęd tytułowych Dziadów). Plan historyczny utworu dzieli się na dwie części jawną (oficjalny wymiar rzeczywistości) i ukrytą (martyrologia, spiski i walka narodowowyzwoleńcza). W części jawnej poeta staje się bezlitosnym analitykiem i krytycznym obserwatorem zaprezentowanej w utworze zbiorowości. W części ukrytej autor zawarł swoją drezdeńską koncepcję martyrologicznej historii Polski. Przez badaczy trzecia część Dziadów jest uznawana za arcydzieło polskiego dramatu romantycznego, m.in. ze względu na połączenie w jednym utworze problematyki polityczno-historycznej z metafizyczną.
