Fedon należy do Dialogów Platońskich utworów stanowiących próbę zdefiniowania kluczowych pojęć filozoficznych. W Fedonie przebywającego w więzieniu Sokratesa odwiedzają przyjaciele i uczniowie, z którymi filozof dyskutuje o sprawach śmierci. W swoistej mowie pożegnalnej do uczniów filozof wyraża pogląd, jakoby śmierć stanowiła rozdzielenie duszy i ciała, i podkreśla, że to sprawami duszy powinien zajmować się filozof. Ustami Sokratesa wyraża też Platon przekonanie o nieśmiertelności duszy i przedstawia na to dowody. Dialog kończy się opisem śmierci Sokratesa.

Uznawany za czwartego polskiego wieszcza romantycznego, niezrozumiany za życia, zapomniany po śmierci. Ponownie odkrył go dopiero Zenon Przesmycki-Miriam w okresie Młodej Polski. Zajmował się wieloma dziedzinami sztuki: pisał poezje, formy prozatorskie, dramaty, eseje, był też grafikiem, rzeźbiarzem, malarzem i filozofem. Na tom składają się następujące utwory: Pamiętnik podróżny, Cywilizacja. Legenda, Ad leones, Menego. Wyjątek z pamiętnika, Czarne kwiaty, Białe kwiaty i Milczenie.

Palę Paryż

Powieść Brunona Jasieńskiego Palę Paryż została opublikowana w 1928 roku w odcinkach na łamach socjalistycznej francuskiej gazety LHumanité, co wzbudziło duże kontrowersje. Utwór stanowił odpowiedź na nowelę Paula Moranda Palę Moskwę, którą Brunon uznał za antyproletariacki paszkwil. Postanowił więc odgryźć się i spalić burżuazyjną Francję. Wywołało to ogromny skandal i falę protestów paryżan, którzy domagali się wydalenia Jasieńskiego z Francji.

The China which Kai Lung inhabits has numerous features of the fantasy Land of Fable, and many of the embedded tales are fantasy; all are told in an ornate manner which ironically, often hilariously, exaggerates the old Chinese tradition of understatement and politesse. Ernest Bramah was born was near Manchester in 1868. He was a poor student, and dropped out of the Manchester Grammar School when sixteen years old to go into the farming business. Bramah found commercial and critical success with his first novel, The Wallet of Kai Lung, but it was his later stories of detective Max Carrados that assured him lasting fame.
