Wacława Potockiego do dziś uznaje się za jednego z najważniejszych poetów dawnej Polski. Ocalenie (1920) to jedna z trzech powieści, zwanych trylogią Lingarda, opartych na doświadczeniach Conrada z czasów służby na parowcu Vidar. Wydarzenia opisane w powieści poprzedzają te zawarte w Szaleństwie Almayera (1895) i Wyrzutku (1896). Historia opowiada o kapitanie Tomie Lingardzie, który wyruszył w podróż na Archipelag Malajski, aby pomóc przyjacielowi odzyskać królestwo. Po drodze pomaga uratować jacht, który ugrzązł na mieliźnie, i ulega urokowi żony właściciela jachtu.

Ferdynand Antoni Ossendowski

Nieznanym szlakiem to zbiór opowiadań inspirowanych licznymi podróżami Ferdynanda Antoniego Ossendowskiego (18781945). Autor odmalowywał w nich odległe, różnorodne krainy z Europy, Azji i Afryki. W centrum zainteresowania zawsze stawiał jednak spotkanie z człowiekiem doświadczonym przez los, odmiennym, a jednak tak bardzo podobnym. Ossendowski to drugi po Sienkiewiczu najczęściej tłumaczony polski autor. Oprócz opowiadań pisał liczne powieści, szeroko odwołujące się do jego bogatych podróżniczych i życiowych doświadczeń.

Główną bohaterką jest Gromiwoja, która postanawia zakończyć wojnę peloponeską. Namawia ona inne kobiety do buntu, polegającego na odmawianiu mężczyznom współżycia. Ponadto przejmują one kontrolę nad ateńskim skarbcem, który znajduje się nad Akropolem. Utwór ma silną wymowę pacyfistyczną.
