Model realizmu politycznego zaprezentowany w tej książce uwypukla jego aspekt etyczny, ujęty przez Maxa Webera w kategorii etyki odpowiedzialności. Z tego punktu widzenia staram się pokazać kształt polityki w Królestwie Polskim - od momentu powstania państwa na Kongresie Wiedeńskim (1815) - do Nocy Listopadowej (1830). W świadomości historycznej (i społecznej) dominuje przekonanie, że to walka powstańcza i romantyczne "mierzenie siły na zamiary" miały największy wkład w odzyskanie przez Polskę niepodległości. Lekceważy się natomiast osiągnięcia zdobyte bez ofiar i rozlewu krwi, co zazwyczaj wymaga większej zręczności i trafnej analizy sytuacji. Tu proponuję przyjrzeć się mniej znanej stronie krótkiego epizodu w dziejach państwa polskiego. Recenzowana rozprawa dobrze realizuje cele i założenia, jakie przyświecały jej Autorowi. To cenny przyczynek do badań nad realizmem w polskim życiu publicznym, po tym jak Polska w wyniku wojny północnej (1700-1721) została poddana rosyjskiej hegemonii. Autor ciekawie analizuje sylwetki rosyjskich protagonistów analizowanych przez siebie wydarzeń. O Aleksandrze, Mikołaju czy Konstantym pisze rzeczowo, a w przypadku tego ostatniego podkreśla, że to niewykorzystana szansa ustrojowo-polityczna Królestwa. Rzadko we współczesnym polskim piśmiennictwie można spotkać się z tego typu stanowiskiem. dr hab.
