Poprzez różne przygody dziewczęta uczą się odróżniać dobro od zła, zwłaszcza panienka de Rosbourg, najmłodsza, żywa i najbardziej szczera z całej grupy. Choć pełna dobrych intencji, wciąż ma przed sobą długą drogę, by zrównać się z Camille i Madeleine, przedstawianymi jako modele prawości i godności. W dalszej części książki pojawia się nowa postać o wyglądzie potwora: Fédora Fichini. Została macochą Sophie przez małżeństwo. Względem Sophie jest niezwykle okrutna, nie przestając jej chłostać, pozbawiać jedzenia i siniaczyć. W polskim przekładzie imiona dziewczynek zostały przetłumaczone z francuskiego. Jego kolejne podboje nie są już poszukiwaniem rozkoszy, ale rodzajem obelgi i wyzwania dla ludzi wiodących płaskie, mieszczańskie życie, o tyle niższe od jego horyzontów. Down and Out in Paris and London is the first full-length work by the English author George Orwell, published in 1933. It is a memoir in two parts on the theme of poverty in the two cities. Its target audience was the middle- and upper-class members of society—those who were more likely to be well educated—and exposes the poverty existing in two prosperous cities: Paris and London. The first part is an account of living in near-extreme poverty destitution in Paris and the experience of casual labor in restaurant kitchens. The second part is a travelogue of life on the road in and around London from the tramp's perspective, with descriptions of the types of hostel accommodation available and some of the characters to be found living on the margins.
